Raymond “Al” Anderson was born in Caledonia, PA on May 12, 1930. He is a first generation Swedish American and the thirteenth child of Oscar Francis Anderson and Hulda Emelia Anderson. He had five brothers and seven sisters. Two of his brothers also served in the military. Bernard “Bud” Anderson was in the Army in WWII, and Henry “Hank” Anderson was in the Navy in WWII.

At age 14, during summer vacation, Al worked for a logging company in Kinzu where he got paid one dollar per day plus meals. At age 15, they needed workers because of the war, so he said he was older than he really was, and worked for Spears Carbon Plant 3 for 42 cents per hour.

Upon graduation from high school, he joined the Marines on August 8, 1948. After he completed 13 weeks of boot camp at Paris Island, he was sent to Guam with an amphibious unit. After that, he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, the Del Mar before being sent to Incheon, Korea in 1950, where he spent nine months. In June of 1951, he returned to San Diego until being discharged as Corporal on August 1, 1952.

Al worked in the gas fields for two years before entering the Pennsylvania State Police on August 8, 1955. As a Trooper, he was stationed in Corry, PA. On September 21, 1957, Al was married to June Reasinger of Weedville, PA.

In 1964, Al was promoted to the rank of Corporal, and was transferred to Troop G in Hollidaysburg, PA. He was assigned duties in the traffic section, and was assigned as the “Troop Training Officer.” In 1969, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and moved to DuBois, PA. He was in charge of the DuBois barracks for 21 years and 11 days, when he retired on May 11, 1990.

Al has served as a Sandy Township Supervisor for twenty years. He has been a member of the American Legion for 42 years, where he served at the Weedville Post as Treasurer for one year, and is currently Assistant Commander.

Al played baseball as a child and now enjoys watching his great grandson play ball; he never misses a game or practice. He has also enjoyed hunting and fishing all his life, and of course is a Steelers and Penn State fan.

Al has one daughter (Barbara Clinton of DuBois), one son (Allen Anderson of DuBois), two granddaughters (Melissa Clinton of DuBois and Laura Anderson of St. Marys), two grandsons (Luke and Eric Clinton of DuBois) and two great grandsons (Dylan Fezell and Noah Clinton of DuBois). The one thing he enjoys the most is spending time with his family and his wife of 54 years.
